The article continues with its explanation of how the swapping of urine samples was carried out. The article states how positive urine samples were smuggled through “mouse holes” between laboratories.

The BBC analysis talks of how allegations have been backed up evidence. Also how these alarming allegation may effect the russian winter olympics 2018 and football world cup 2018, may even lead to taking away of these events from Russia. The report states the different reactions to the Mclaren report from the IOC, UK Anti-doping agency and the US Anti-doping agency.

The Russian reaction includes comments from Russian Olympic Committee vice president commenting the allegations are “nothing new”. Whilst deputy speaker of the Russian parliament described the allegations as “torrent of lies, disinformation, rumours and fables”

Our Verdict: This article and the whole saga around the doping scandal surrounding Russian sports personnel is an eye opener. On the surface it highlights the possibility of Russian athlete wrongdoing, which may be true. However its implications may not be just confined to sports but are likely to add to the already strained relationship between UK, US and its allies and the Russian government. Considering the worlds biggest tournament the FIFA world cup 2018 is due to be held in Russia also adds to the significance of this revelation. It would be interesting to see how far this case will go and the resulting reaction from Russian authorities and government.

Key word: World Cup 2018
